Just paid a little too much for the classic Doctor Who cookbook… I was expecting it to hardcover but mine is softcover, is that normal? I’ll be trying some of the recipes though, and the pages are pristinely white so that’s cool.
But the way the picture of Frazer Hines made me gasp when I turned the page- agh he’s cooking!

I feel like it could be fun to try and make a Gallifreyan cook book but I have about zero idea how to start
#I like doctor who and I like cooking so why not do something that’s both#I’m trying to think of any references to Gallifreyan dishes but all I can think of is that one part from gallifrey season five I think and#it’s not at all specific#there also like how do you make fictional food from a fictional planet in real life#I feel like I’ve heard of a dw cookbook though#could maybe see if that has anything interesting#doctor who#time lords#gallifrey#also if anyone sees this and has ideas feel free to tell me I’d love to hear them

Do you have the original Doctor Who Cookbook? I do, somewhere. I've even made a few recipes from it!
No, but I really wish I had it! I've seen some photos and I would love to try some of those recipes.

Ok, but the recipe Caroline John gave for chocolate fudge cake in the Doctor Who cookbook is really good actually, so here it is if you want it (with the little introductory bit that goes alongside it).

Ingredients wise, I found it worked best with these measures:
The cake:-
1½ cups plain flour
1½ cups caster sugar
4oz margarine/lard/butter (I used margarine for the cake and butter for the icing bc I had both but not enough to use for both elements. Don't think it really matters what you use though)
2 eggs
5 tablespoons chocolate powder (I used one that was for baking and/or drinking, but whatever you like best)
1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda (add this to bowl 2 with the flour, chocolate powder and cream of tartar, even though it misses it out in the actual recipe)
1½ teaspoons cream of tartar
½ cup (cold) milk
½ cup boiling water (but please be careful if your only cup measure is completely made of metal, as mine was)
She says to use greased tin foil in your cake tin, but don't. It doesn't work well and you will end up with an inedible cake full of silver bits. I would recommend a silicone cake tin if you have one, or a tin with a removable base and some greaseproof paper that will lie relatively flat if not. (Whatever you use should have relatively high sides bc it will rise quite a lot).
The icing:-
3oz butter
3 tablespoons chocolate powder
3oz icing sugar
There should be enough icing for the middle and the top from these measurements, as long as you don't go overboard in the centre!
Also, when it's ready, it tastes best warmed for 15-20 seconds in the microwave and served with some kind of cream or ice cream. :)
#Sorry for going with the oz measurements and not translating to g but that's what I use for all my recipes#Anyway the cake tastes excellent and idk if this is just a general recipe for chocolate fudge cake but it tastes good so I thought I'd shar#for anyone who doesn't have the book#Recipes#Baking#Caroline John#Doctor Who cookbook

According to an illustration from the 1985 Doctor Who Cookbook, the Third Doctor was able to gain strength by eating spinach like Popeye, though judging by the question marks above his head, he is as surprised as we are about this information.

Also, thanks to TV Comic, Popeye has crossed over with Doctor Who.

(The Avengers refer to the British TV show, and not Marvel.)

Well,
Past (UK) editions of The Guinness Book of Records
Discworld books
Catan expansions and derivatives
Star Trek on DVD/Blu-ray (which was mostly in one short period after certain streaming services started playing silly buggers)
Past editions of British Railways Locomotives & Coaching Stock (one day I'll digitize the info) (active collecting on hiatus)
Interesting vegetable seeds (mostly heirlooms). Don't ask me about the Wild Cherry Tomato.
Some of these are in association with my beloved, some are solo collections.
My beloved also collects cookbooks (old and new), "craft stuff", and Christmas trees (as in pretty models thereof).
I've been musing on collecting Doctor Who books. There's about 550 (I don't have the spreadsheet to hand for an exact number), excluding audiobooks.
Because polls get the most engagement I’m making a poll lol
(For the sake of this poll: a collector is anyone who *currently has* a collection of things either physically or digitally that they intentionally acquired which can be grouped together)
Please please please please pleeeeeeeaaaaaaase tell me what you collect and optionally why!!!! (This is doubly true if your collection is related to a regulatory/“special” interest!!!!!!! That’s honestly the only reason I’m making this poll, I am begging youuuuuuuuuuu
Neurodivergent related tags are for reach as I know a lot of neurodiverse people are collectors. I do try my best not to clutter those tags, if anyone has an issue with it please tell me and I’ll remove them

You should've told me specifically abt the need for more slick sunday thoughts
I am thinking abt county fairs. Specifically the competition aspects, baked goods & vegetable sizes, live stock is big thing if I remember idk we don't have county fairs like tht where I live
ALL THIS TO SAY
A!Wayne has entered the Roan County Fair Pie Competition 🥧 going on nearly 15 years, he has won a ribbon once & it was for 3rd place. Which normally would've been incredible except Wayne is every bit as competitive as his nephew
1st place of the various cooking events get some prize money & their recipe is put into a county wide cookbook. One person has consistently won 1st place more often than not & tht is Old Lady Doris Harrington. She has become Wayne's one sided nemesis, never mind tht she is consistently deserving of the ribbon or tht she's as sweet as the peach pie she won with in 1980 or tht she runs a book club (tht wayne is always invited to meetings for) out of the impressive private library of her family estate. But this year will be different, this year Wayne is destined for the shiny blue 1st place ribbon. Old Lady Harrington admitted at last year's fair her doctor & grandson didn't want her do so much with her hands any longer because of an arthritis diagnosis.
NOW LISTEN Wayne has NEVER wished outright ill or bad fortune on Hawkins sweetest resident BUT HE WANTS TO WIN & THIS YEAR MIGHT BE IT, Wayne tells Eddie everyday of April while he's testing & fine tuning his pie recipe tht the summer of 1987 is his year!!
A!Eddie rolls his eyes & forces down a bite of yet more blueberry pie, he can't wait for it all to b over bc he won't b able to look at a blueberry till the fair rolls around next year
Every other weekend Eddie hosts some kids at their small home for a game of d&d, Claudia Henderson is always the one to drop off Dustin & Lucas & Erica then spend twenty minutes commiserating w Wayne about Doris Harrington's winning streak. Claudia might have won the blue ribbon 3 times but no one in Roane County wins the pie competition as consistently as Mrs Harrington so there's a mutual understanding btwn all the other competitors tht they aren't baking to beat eachother, but to beat Mrs Doris Harrington.
Except, this week in late April it isn't Claudia's car tht pulls up with the 3 kids. It's a Beemer, a nice one too. Well cared for and driven by someone who turns out to be the most beautiful omega Eddie has ever seen.
He introduces himself as Steve, tht he's moved to Hawkins to take care of his grandmama who is neighbors w Claudia, tht Claudia got called into work at the hospital unexpectedly and so she'd asked Steve to help her.
Steve comments briefly on the smell of pie & Eddie can't help the groan he let's out. Eddie explains his uncles one sided vendetta to win the blue ribbon at the Roan County Fair Pie Competition at the end of May & tht it means Eddie won't be able to look at a blueberry for years. He's rewarded w a light laugh before Steve mentions his grandmother always entered tht Competition but she couldn't this year & was pretty bummed about it. Then Steve says he might sign up just so she can be involved by proxy, but he won't expect to win. Steve leaves with a wave & a blush & an honest giggle when Eddie uses all of his theatrical talent to bid the omega goodbye.
Eddie is great at multitasking so he daydreams abt a life with Steve and gives the kids a hell of a session to play.
It isn't till the kids r all waiting to get picked up, munching on pieces of pie Wayne placed in front of them tht Erica drops the bomb tht Steve is Doris Harrington's grandson... Wayne doesn't think anything of it till Dustin loudly remarks abt Steve signing up for the pie competition now tht he's a resident of Hawkins
Shenanigans ensue, steddie get together in the midst of pie competition drama, Wayne thinks Steve is going to beat them all at the competition till the day arrives & everyone learns Steve has entered the newly established savory pie competition, which steve does win the blue ribbon in & Doris congratulates her grandson & when Wayne wins 1st place in the more famous long standing sweet pie competition the old woman gives him the pie dish she won her first blue ribbon with.
by the time the Roane County Fair rolls around the next year steddie r mated & had a ceremony in the landscaped back garden of the large Harrington estate, Steve enters the sweet pie competition & when he wins the blue ribbon he dedicates it to his late grandmama Doris Harrington
none of you have any reason to know this about me but since I live in rural af Ohio, we have massive county fairs and I’m obsessed with going to them. the food, the animals, the music!!!! love the vibes and the sweetness of pie competitions🥺💕
